History
Originally created in 2003 by the University of British Columbia, Flintbox emerged as the foundation for open innovation software tools and the leading intellectual property exchange. Wellspring Worldwide acquired Flintbox in 2010 and has transformed the system into a state-of-the art, intuitive software platform that combines Wellspring’s global network of research institutions with the feedback and experience of the Flintbox members. Our new release creates a collaborative community with over 10,000 registered users and 200 different organizations across six continents.
Wellspring relaunched the new Flintbox in April 2010 as a platform for developing relationships and driving collaboration in the innovation community. Throughout 2010, Wellspring will be releasing new features and functionality suggested by companies, universities, independent innovators, and others as part of our user-driven development process.
Flintbox for Universities
The global Flintbox community is ideal for marketing
- new technologies,
- creative works,
- course materials, and
- innovative ideas.
Flintbox enables universities to maximize their outreach to a broad spectrum of the innovation community. Plus, Wellspring provides expertise in assisting TTO’s, inventors, and industrial liaison offices to promote their technologies, research programs, and partnering opportunities to Flintbox.
Flintbox for Corporations
Corporations turn to Flintbox to cultivate existing relationships and engage in new opportunities for collaborative research and solution sourcing from universities and other companies. For example, a pharmaceutical firm uses Flintbox to provide researchers and physicians software to assess patient outcomes.
Flintbox for Technology Communities
Flintbox empowers technology communities to connect effectively in a geographic region, building a “Sphere of Innovation” to truly recognize and capitalize on the valuable relationships and innovation assets in your community. For example, by creating or joining a community “Group” of members with common interests, say tissue engineering or artificial intelligence, you can link to other groups and explore common interests and complementary resources, for a dynamic collaborative effort and to efficiently share related technology projects.
Flintbox for Innovators and Entrepreneurs
Build your personal innovation space on the web, catalog your own private resources, and research your innovation networks. Market your ideas, use surveys to elicit expert feedback, and share your networks and resources publicly with colleagues and new acquaintances.
