Description

Opportunity:

ADC has two primary growth focus areas: one is fiber products and technology, the second is the next generation wireless network edge.

Fiber:

Within the fiber area, the company's current business is cable and connectors for communications networks, both carrier networks (wireline, wireless and cable) and enterprise networks (data centers and structured cabling.) The types of products include specialty cable, cable assemblies, connectors, panels, frames and a variety of application specific modules that split, combine, monitor or manage fiber optic signals.

They are interested in connectorization automation, multi-fiber connectors, WDM, FTTX, FTTN and MDU products and technologies. On the cutting edge, they are monitoring automated cross connection, fiber optic coatings and chip to chip fiber interconnection.

Wireless:

Within the wireless area, the company is focused on Radio Access Nodes (RAN) that leverages IP technology in some way. That includes femto- and pico-cell base stations (that have IP-based backhaul), Base Station Controllers, WiMax and LTE.

Following the acquisition of LGC Wireless last year ADC currently has the number 1 position in indoor active electronics and wireless products and they are actively seeking technologies to maintain their position. The majority of their products are Distributed Antenna System (DAS) products, both analog and digital systems that can carry multiple cellular carrier signals around a building or campus. They also have products that provide a complete cellular network for islands, cruise ships and embassies.

Company Profile:

Minnesota-based ADC provides global network infrastructure products and services that enable the delivery of high-speed Internet, video, data, and voice services to residential, business and mobile subscribers worldwide. The company also offers global copper- and fiber-based connectivity solutions and cabling products used in public access and enterprise networks and provides global scale and expanded products and services to better serve customers anywhere in the world.

Background

The below opportunity outlines Minnesota-based ADC's interest in reviewing Canadian technologies that will enhance the company's current global network technology portfolio.

ADC is very keen to work with Canadian companies and indicated that they have been tracking a small portfolio of Canadian telecom/wireless companies for the past few years. The Consulate General of Canada Minneapolis has engaged with ADC to help identify specific technologies of interest and below is what the CTO has initially shared with us.
