Description

Authored by two experienced oral medicine specialists, these two CD-ROM include 23 live video sequences illustrating the methodology for the examination of all extra and intra oral structures. A menu bar on the master screen allows to select the anatomical structure and then choose from four sub-headings, that is the examination technique, anatomical landmarks, normal appearance and abnormalities. For a given structure, the abnormalities are listed by their main clinical features which when selected, a descriptive list of disorders it might be asssociated with appears in a window.

The extra oral and intra oral CD’s include respectively, 450 and 1100 high resolution images illustrating more than 250 different disorders. Using key words with the search engine makes it easy to find a specific pathology or condition. Beside the video clips a complete description of all the procedures, the normal appearance as well as the pathologic states are provided in a full text format with hyperlinks to access more detailed descriptions and additional photographs.

Potential Applications

This multimedia production is a complete guide to the physical evaluation of the dental patient and a powerful self learning tool for any dental students and oral health professionals who want to refresh their knowledge in oral diagnosis. The visual and full text information are of high quality, up to date and using the current terminology and taxonomy.

State of Development

For now, it is available in French only. The next step would be a partnership for the production of an English version.
