Avery Dennison Corporation is a global leader in pressure-sensitive technology, self-adhesive base materials and self-adhesive consumer and office products with sales of $6.3 billion in 2007. It is best known for its Avery-brand office automation and consumer products, Fasson-brand self-adhesive materials, reflective and graphic materials, peel-and-stick postage stamps, industrial labeling solutions, specialty tapes and performance polymers. The Company employs more than 30,000 men and women in over 150 manufacturing and distribution facilities in more than 60 countries around the world.
Avery Dennison’s Office & Consumer Products Division is looking for innovative companies and technologies in key areas of interest, to form mutually beneficial strategic partnerships with rapid revenue and growth potential. These could take the form (but are not limited to) in‑licensing, distribution agreements, and joint product development.
The Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles will facilitate the process with briefing on opportunities, introduction to key contacts at Avery Dennison, and exploration of further business or technology partnering opportunities in California, Arizona and New Mexico.
Areas of interest include unique products, services and technologies that meet the following criteria (see details below):
- Must fit a) Current or b) Adjacent/complementary Avery product categories
- Must address unmet needs in Avery’s existing consumer base
- Can be sold through Avery’s current channels
1. a) Current Avery product categories
- Value-Added Printable Media: Labels (inkjet and laser printable mailing labels, identification labels, smart labels, security labels, etc.), Cards (business cards, greeting cards, etc.)
- Products for Organizing and Filing: Dividers, Binders.
- Specialty & Decorating Products: Specialty/Functional Papers & Films, Decorating Technologies (T-Shirt transfers, skins, etc.)
1. b) Adjacent/complementary categories
- Shipping-related products, software and on/off-line services (shipping labels, forms, packaging, small business shipping solutions, etc.)
- Meetings and events-related products, software and on/off-line services (unique name badges, meeting attendee registration solutions, etc.)
- General “Enablement” Tools & Solutions: e.g. software & services that enable printing onto Avery media products or other value-added interaction with Avery products
- Content and Related Tools: content and design tools targeting end-users in Avery’s customer base
- Eco/”Green” Products and Services in current Avery categories: environmentally friendly labels, binders, cards, etc.
- Secondary interest: Printing and Printing Technologies: desktop, tabletop, portable, digital printing & inks, etc.
2. Avery consumer base
- Large office/business end-users
- SOHO (small-offices, home-offices) end-users
- Home end-users
- Secondary interest: Verticals including schools, hospitals/medical, government, real-estate, financial.
3. Avery channels
- Commercial channels targeting large offices/businesses (large account contracts, catalogs, on-line)
- Retail office products superstores - e.g. Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc.
- Mass market channels – drug stores, discount stores, club stores, electronics stores, etc.
How to Apply
- Review areas of interest and determine your company’s fit with Avery Dennison’s Office & Consumer Products Division’s needs;
- Ensure that your organization has relevant published papers, presentation materials and/or patents that can be reviewed by Avery Dennison evaluators;
- Contact Eric Holdrinet (eric.holdrinet@international.gc.ca) at the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles with your expression of interest, and you will be provided with a basic template for completion;
- Avery Dennison will follow-up with selected candidates one-on-one to arrange meetings with appropriate contacts. To the extent possible, candidates not selected will also be contacted for feedback and potential alternative steps.
